1.2. Client setup

Requirements

Installing a browser plugin (RTCCPlugin)

Note

Video Calls 1.2 replaces the RTCCDriver by a browser plugin (RTCCPlugin). It also introduces WebRTC for Chrome browser only, so no plugin is required.

Log in eXo Platform on a supported browser (Firefox, IE or Safari). It automatically detects if the plugin was installed or not. If not, it shows a notification right below the top administration bar that asks you to install the plugin.

Here, click Download Video Client to download the RTCCplugin installer.

Note

  • Once you have clicked Download Video Client, the pop-up will disappear.

  • If the pop-up somehow disturbs you, click to temporarily dismiss it. Be careful with "Don't ask me again" that will permanently skip the notification.

The following screenshots walk you through the plugin installation:

On Windows 7 (with Firefox or IE):

When clicking Download Video Client, you will be asked to save the RTCCplugin.msi file.

Save and wait for the download to be completed, then run it.

When the installation finishes, log in eXo Platform, you will not see the notification asking for installing the plugin any more. That is, the video call function is ready for use.

On MAC (with Safari):

After clicking Download Video Client, notice if the browser asks you to keep the RTCCplugin.pkg file. Save the file and wait for the download to be completed, then run it.

The installation wizard will help you finish the rest:

When the installation finishes, log in eXo Platform, you will not see the notification asking for installing the plugin any more. That is, the video call function is ready for use.
