1.2. Client setup

Requirements

Installing a browser plugin (RTCCPlugin)

Note

As of the Video Calls 1.2, the RTCCDriver is replaced by a browser plugin (RTCCPlugin). It also introduces WebRTC for Chrome browser only, so no plugin is required.

Log in eXo Platform on a supported browser (Firefox, IE or Safari) and click on the button from anywhere (activity streams, profile page or connection page). If the plugin is not installed yet, one pop-up will appear, asking you to install the plugin.

On Windows 7 (with Firefox or IE):

On MAC (with Safari):

Here, click Download the plugin to download the RTCCplugin installer.

Note

  • Once you have clicked Download the plugin, the pop-up will disappear.

  • If the pop-up somehow disturbs you, click to temporarily dismiss it.

The following screenshots walk you through the plugin installation:

On Windows 7 (with Firefox or IE):

When clicking Download the plugin, you will be asked to save the RTCCplugin.msi file.

Save and wait for the download to be completed, then run it.

When the installation finishes, log in eXo Platform and try making a call. You will not see the notification asking for the plugin installation anymore, that is, the Video Call function is ready for use.

On MAC (with Safari):

After clicking Download the plugin, notice if the browser asks you to keep the RTCCplugin.pkg file. Save the file and wait for the download to be completed, then run it.

The installation wizard will help you finish the rest:

When the installation finishes, log in eXo Platform and try making a call. You will not see the notification asking for the plugin installation any longer, that is, the Video Call function is ready for use.

If you have any problem, refer to the SightCall help center for more information.
